*Shreveport, Louisiana, 4. Januar 1917, +Denton, Texas, 24. Februar 2004. Nach Studien am Cincinnati Conservatory of Music promovierte er an der Eastman School zum Dr. phil. Zu seinen Kompositionslehrern zählten Eugene Goossens, Herbert Elwell und Howard Hanson. 1946 trat er in den Lehrkörper des Iowa State Teachers College ein, wo er neunzehn Jahre lang lehrte. Bis 1984 unterrichtete er an der North Texas State University.
