Tony Cheseaux composer / arranger
Tony Cheseaux, hails from the Swiss village of Saillon. He deci ded after his schooling to obtain his Federal Diploma as an Gard ener while at the same time pursuing studies in conducting at the Conservatory of Sion. Th is course he completed with distinction un der the tuition of the Swiss conductor and composer Jean Daetwyler. The distinction made it possible for him to be admitted to the class of pro fessional conductors at the Conservatory of Lausanne, where he studied und er Jean Balissat (orchestration) and Hervé Klopfenstein (conduc ting). Between 1984 and 1992 Tony Cheseaux conducted several brass bands in his native region, the Canton Valais. For many years he w as part of the Ensemble de Cuivres Valaisan. With them he played in su ccession the Cornet, Flugelhorn, Horn and Tuba. In 1991 he also be came a student of the Scottish tuba player and chamber musician James Go urlay and joined the ranks of the Berner Oberland Brass Band, with whom he acquired invaluable experience, both as instrumentalist and, on occasion, conductor at a great number of concerts and music competitions in Switzerland and other countries in Europe.
From 1995 to 1998 he presented a weekly music broadcast on the Swiss regional radio station Rhône FM. In addition, he was, f rom 1994 to 1999, Musical Director of the Angelo Bearpark Brass Ensemble. In 1997 he became the leader of the Harmonie Municipale of Sion , the official Band of the Canton Valais and the City of Sion, while being at th e same time Director of the Musi c School of this ensemble. In April 1999 he was honoured by the Academic Society of Education and Encouragement Art-Sciences-Lettres in Paris. Between 2000 and 2006 he c onducted instrumental ensembles such as Musique de Lancy (Geneva) and the brass band Ensemble de Cuivre s de la Covatte, Coeuve (Jura ). He also studied bassoon under the tutelage of Benedetta Targa at the Sion Conservatory, while performing as bassoonist with the Geneva Symphony Orchestra. Since 2006 Tony Cheseaux has worked for va rious publishing companies as an independ ent composer, arranger or copyist as well a s in the capacity of conductor in promotional record ings with, among others, the Lucyna Wind Ensemble (Poland) and the Orchestre dHarm onie de Fribourg (Switzerland). As of now, more than fifty arrangements and compositions bear his signature.
