Born in Pittsburgh, at a very young age Sammy Nestico became the staff arranger for the ABC radio station there. He later received his degree in music education from Duquesne University.
Sammy youned the U.S. Air Force Band in Washington as staff arranger, and subsequently led the famous Airmen of Note. After 15 years with the air Force, he joined the U.S. Marine Band in Washington as chief arranger and directir of the White House orchestra during the Kennedy and Johnson administrations.
Between 1970 and 1980 Sammy wrote for the Count Basie Orchestra. He directed the recording of ten Basie albums of original music. Four of which won Grammy awards. He also worked for Capitol Records, cowriting the equivalent of 63 albums for that company.
Through the years Sammy's writing credits have grown to include work for all major film and TV studios. He has also written commercials for Anheuser Busch, Zenith, Ford, Mattel, Dodge, Remington and more. His music has also been recorded by the Boston Pops and Andre Kostelanitz orchestras. Somewhere along the way he has miraculously managed time to publish several hundred numbers in the educational field ranging in difficulty from the elemenatary to universitly levels.
