Roy Phillippe, a native of Cleveland, Ohio, received his Bachelor of Music degree from Kent State University. Privately, he studied composition, arranging and orchestration with Phil Rizzo, author and director of theory for the Stan Kenton Jazz Orchestra in Residence program. Shortly after graduation, Roy moved to Los Angeles where he has been working as an arranger for film, television, concerts, recordings and publication. Count Basie, L.A. Express, the Everett (WA) Symphony, the Jim Widner Big Band, and the Young Musician’s Foundation Debut Orchestra are among those who have performed and recorded Roy’s arrangements. Roy’s many print arrangements and compositions published for jazz ensemble, orchestra, and concert band are performed by student and professional musicians throughout the world. He is also the editor of a film scoring text, “Case History of a Film Score: The Thorn Birds” by Henry Mancini. Roy’s professional affiliations include ASCAP, NARAS, and the American Federation of Musicians.
