PHIL FIELD (b. Philip Hunter Field aka Philip Field) is an American composer, multi-instrumentalist, synth programmer, record producer and music educator. He was born and raised in East Orange, New Jersey. He attended The Pingry School and studied classical piano at Oberlin Conservatory of Music.
Phil joined the group Aurra in 1980 and co-wrote six songs for their album, Send Your Love, including their first big hit, "Are You Single" in 1981. As a writer, performer, and musical director, he was a member of the group Mtume from 1982 - 1986. He co-wrote three songs for the band's 1983 album, Juicy Fruit, which was certified gold, as well as three songs on the You, Me and He album.
