*Bermuda, 27. Februar 1937. Er studierte am Morley College und an der London University sowie mit Hilfe eines Mendelssohn Stipendiums bei Goffredo Petrassi und Lennox Berkeley. Short lebt als freischaffender Komponist in England und veröffentlichte auch ein Buch über Gustav Holst (The Man and His Music, Oxford 1990).
