Hendrik de Boer arranger
Hendrik de Boer (1986) started his musical career, eight years old, as a cornetplayer by brassband 'Apollo' Grou. After a couple of years he moved to baritone and when he was fourteen he joined brassband 'Soli Brass' Leeuwarden (championship division). In 2003 he became the principal euphonium of Soli Brass and held this position for ten years. In 2015, after a two-years sabbatical from 'championship division-banding', he made his return by joining brassband 'De Waldsang' Buitenpost.In 2007 he started his study 'euphonium' by Ane Travaille at the 'Prince Claus Conservatory in Groningen and graduated succesfully in 2012. During and after his study he followed several masterclasses by Jukka Myllys, Steven Mead, David Childs and Glyn Williams. He also played frequently as a remplaçant with the Dutch military orchestras, the North Netherlands Orchestra (Pictures at an Exhibition, Ein Heldenleben & The Planets), some of the leading brassbands in the north of the Netherlands and joined the British 'Fodens' Band during a studyweek at Manchester in 2011.
Nowadays he serves as a fulltime military euphoniumplayer at the orchestra's of the Dutch Landforces.
Next to his study 'euphonium' Hendrik studied 'wind-, fanfare-, and brassband-conducting' by Tijmen Botma and Klaas van der Woude at the same conservatory. For this course he also graduated succesfully in 2012. During and after his study he followed several masterclasses by Bjorn Sagstad, Allan Withington, Jose Rafael Pascual Vilaplana and Rune Bergmann. Nowadays he is conductor of the 'Heerenveens Muziekcorps' Heerenveen (windband) and is he regularly invited as guestconductor.
During the last couple of years composing and arranging music started to be more and more important as part of Hendrik his musical activities. He composed and arranged for several artists and ensembles like Femke IJlstra, Bart Schneemann, Perry Hoogendijk, Sytze Pruiksma, Robbert Vos, Ian Bousfield, the Dutch 'Blazersensemble', brassband 'Soli Brass' Leeuwarden and brassband 'De Waldsang' Buitenpost. His arrangement of Paul Hindemith's 'March' from 'Symphonic Metamorphosis' was performed by the European Youth Brassband, during the European Brassband Championships 2015 and is also published on the cd 'Highlights from the European Brassband Championships 2015'. In 2018 his composition 'Mystic Echoes' was used as the set work of the challenge section at the European Brassband Championships 2018.
