Harold Moss composer

Harold Moss (born around 1891, died 1960) was a well-known conductor, composer and adjudicator in the field of British brass bands. Moss was also an accomplished trombonist and even became known as the King of Trombones. He conducted the Wingates Temperance Band from 1909 to 1936, and together they won the British National Brass Band Championship at Crystal Palace in 1931. The compulsory number they played was Honor and Glory by Hubert Bath .

From 1936 to 1948 he conducted the Creswell Colliery. In 1948 he moved to Lancashire to conduct the Leyland Motors Band. During his time there he composed several solos and did much arranging for Leyland. Unfortunately, very little material was published. The best known of his solos is probably the cornet solo The Nightingale (also known as the Grand Concert Polka ).
