Hans Rückauer was born in Egerland near Karlsbad and came to Mannheim as a refugee after the war. There he led a band that was mainly dedicated to Bohemian brass music. At the same time, he was also active as a composer and arranger for the well-known band "Die Kurpfalzjäger". In 1972 he wrote the solo polka "Der fidele Bassist" for the tuba player of this band. This composition was immediately well received by many bands and is still in the repertoire of many brass bands today. To this day, the name Hans Rückauer is associated with the polka "Der fidele Bassist".
