Carlos Amarelinho composer
Born in Serpa in 1977, Carlos Alberto Paixão Amarelinho began his musical studies at the age of 14 as a saxophonist at the Music School of the Serpa Philharmonic Society. He joined the Baixo Alentejo Regional Conservatory at the age of 18, where he graduated in 2000/2001 as a saxophonist under Professor José Brito. He attended various band and orchestra conducting courses, including Sir David Whitwell, António Saiote, José Brito, Alberto Roque, Jean Sébastien Bérreau, Francisco Navarro and Michael Dittrich, among others. He did several internships with the National Wind Orchestra of the Knights Templar (Tomar) from 1997 to 2001. In the summer of 2007, he took part in an internship and conducting competition in Budapest. He has attended several saxophone masterclasses, namely with José Massarão, Mário Santos, Henk Van Twillert, Stéphane Laporte, Jean Yves Fourmeau and Mario Marzi.
As a trainer, he has been invited to conduct various saxophone and orchestral conducting masterclasses in various cities across Portugal. He was a founding member of the Lisbon saxophone quartet, as well as the Alentejo saxophone quartet (Alen Sax). He was also one of the founders of the Big Band do Alentejo (Big Alen Band), of which he was conductor. As a composer, he has written for the RTP song festival and regularly arranges and composes for a wide variety of ensembles, from small groups to orchestras and symphonic bands.
