Carl Chevallard composer

Carl Chevallard, PhD, a native of Columbus, Ohio, has decades of experience as a professional performer, conductor, teacher, author, producer, and military commander.

In 1972, he began a career in teaching on the faculties of the Walnut Township (Ohio) Public Schools, Iowa Wesleyan College, San Jose State University, and Michigan State University. In 2003, his first book, Teaching Music through Performing Marches, was published and is now an internationally-acclaimed textbook.

In 1983, Chevallard began his second career as an Air Force band officer. Col. Arnald D. Gabriel, the legendary Commander and Conductor of The USAF Band, Washington, DC, appointed him Assistant Conductor and Executive Officer. Subsequently, he was appointed principal conductor and commander of Air Force bands in California, the USAF Band of the Pacific, and in 1998, the United States Air Force Academy Band. In the course of his military career Chevallard published twenty articles, recorded thirteen albums, conducted on three continents, and produced radio for NPR and television for PBS. In October 2004, Lt. Col. Chevallard retired from the United States Air Force.

In 2006, he began his third career by forming ConductYourLife, LLC, a training/consulting firm that brings to the world of corporate leadership the fresh perspective of a professional conductor.

Chevallard is a graduate of The Ohio State University, the University of Iowa, and the Air Force’s Air Command and Staff College. In early 2012, he came full circle by returning to academia as an Associate Professor of Humanities at Colorado Technical University, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
