Ben van Dijk composer

Ben van Dijk was principal bass trombonist with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. Born in The Hague in 1955, Ben van Dijk received his first trombone lessons from his father Piet van Dijk, who was principal trombonist of The Hague Philharmonic Orchestra at the time. Ben obtained his solo diploma in trombone "cum laude" at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague in 1980. In 1976 he was appointed bass trombonist of the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra. He continued to study with Jeff Reynolds and Roger Bobo in Los Angeles.

After 23 years with the N.R.P.O., Ben joined the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra as principal bass trombonist. Ben was a professor at the Amsterdam Conservatory from 2011 to 2020. He has been invited as teacher and soloist to the International Trombone Festivals in Detmold (DE) 1992, in Cleveland (USA) 1994, in Utrecht (NL) 2000, in Denton (USA) 2002, Birmingham (UK) 2006 and in 2010 to Austin (USA). Ben has also given masterclasses and recitals in Korea, Japan, Greece, Hungary, Sweden, England, Scotland, France, Spain, Brazil, Venezuela, Peru, the USA and many other countries.
