Christmas in the Alps enchants people because of the very special atmosphere with a combination of attentive silence and the blue shining moonlight. At Christmas time, one can often hear in the distance a small group of wind players performing some old traditional carols in front of one or other little chapel in the mountains. This Christmas Carol medley by Willi März reminds us of that tradition. He has arranged tunes from ancient Bavarian and Austrian Christmas Carols and shepherd songs. The religious 'Andachtsjodler' is still sung at Christmas time in the churches of Bavaria and Tyrol.

La fête hivernale de Noël dans les Alpes émerveille toujours les gens à cause de l'atmosphère unique due à un amalgame de silence respectueux et de la lumière nocturne bleuâtre. Aux alentours de Noël on y entend souvent au loin des petites formations d'instruments à vent interprétant des vieilles chansons populaires de Noël près de l'une ou l'autre petite chapelle montagnarde. Ce pot pourri de chansons de Noël de Willi März nous rappelle cette vieille tradition historique. Il utilise des mélodies d'anciens chants de Noël et de vieux chants de berger de Bavière et d'Autriche. Le « Andachtsjodler » à caractère religieux est encore chanté de nos jours dans les églises de Bavière et du Tyrol.

De winterse Kerst in de Alpen brengt de mensen in verrukking omwille van de heel bijzondere atmosfeer met een combinatie van aandachtige stilte en het glanzende blauwe nachtlicht. Tijdens de kerstdagen hoort men vaak in de verte kleine blazersensembles die bij één of ander kapelletje oude volkswijsjes uit het Kerstrepertoire vertolken. De Kerstmedley van Willi März herinnert aan deze historische traditie. Hij verwerkt melodieën uit oude Beierse en Oostenrijkse Kerst- en Herdersliederen. De religieuze 'Andachtsjodler' wordt ook nu nog met Kerstmis in de kerken van Beieren en van Tirol gezongen.
