Robert W. Smith's setting of the African-American spiritual "Be Still, My Soul" is an excellent opportunity to teach lyrical performance techniques and expression to your beginning band. Using only the first six notes introduced in most band methods, this beautiful arrangement is musically rewarding and educationally sound. The spiritual's melody is based on "Finlandia" by Sibelius allowing multiple cross-cultural teaching opportunities. Highly recommended!
