"How I love the name of Jesus" is a psalm of David Welander. He wrote it on the train home to Lørenskog in January 1923, and completed it out overnight. It was printed in the magazine "Krigsropet" shortly after. In the early days it was sung on several melodies, including What a Friend We Have in Jesus, but it soon became the melody we use today that was the one bound up with this text. The melody is from Zululand and became known in Oslo when a Salvation Army officers, who had been travelling, used it in a series of meetings.

[NO]«Navnet Jesus blekner aldri» er en salme med tekst av av David Welander. Han skrev den på toget hjem til Lørenskog i januar 1923, og fullførte den ut over natten. Den sto på trykk i Krigsropet kort tid etter. I den første tiden ble den sunget på flere melodier, blant annet Hvilken venn vi har i Jesus, men det tok ikke lang tid før den melodien man bruker i dag ble den man forbandt med denne teksten. Melodien er fra Zululand og var blitt kjent i Oslo da noen frelsesarmeoffiserer, som hadde vært misjonærer der, brukte den i en møteserie.
