La Corrida de Torros describes the course of a Spanish bullfight. At the beginning there is the paseillo. All the participants enter the arena and introduce themselves to the audience. Two mounted alguacilillos then symbolically ask the committee for the key to the "Puerta de los Toriles", the gate behind which the fighting bulls are located. The actual bullfight now consists of three parts separated by horn signals, called tercios. Normally, three toreros take part in a corrida, and each of them has two bulls. In the first tercio, the torero uses the capote, a relatively large cloth of purple and yellow colour. Two mounted picadores, who fend off the bull with a lance, then enter the arena. In the second part, the banderilleros now take centre stage. They have to thrust two banderillas, skewers decorated with colourful ribbons, into the back of the attacking bull. In the final "Suerte suprema", the torero uses the muleta, a small red cloth. Now he must prove his faena, his mastery of the bull, and strike an artistic balance between human skill and animal strength. At the end of the corrida, the torero kills the bull by thrusting his sword into its neck.
