Ewazen takes great pleasure in writing for brass, and being asked for a concerto for three trombones was pure delight. For Maestra JoAnn Faletta and the trombone section of the Buffalo Philharmonic, Ewazen has crafted a three-movement standout, in what is, admittedly, underserved repertoire. Music writer Herman Trotter of The Buffalo News notes, "...Its outstanding feature seems to be the glorious sonority three trombones can produce," and "The composer describes the Finale as 'rip-roaring.'
