*Polanka bei Odrou, Tschechien, 24. September 1919, +Scranton, Pennsylvania, 22. März 1996. In Prag studierte er Musikwissenschaft an der Universität sowie Komposition und Dirigieren am Konservatorium. 1942 übersiedelte er nach Freiburg in der Schweiz, wo er seine musikwissenschaftlichen Studien fortsetzte und zugleich Theorieunterricht erteilte. Ehe er sich 1957 in den USA niederließ, dirigierte er in Prag, im Schweizer Rundfunk und bei Radio Free Europe. Als Gastprofessor und Gastdirigent sowie fruchtbarer Komponist (von mehr als dreihundert Werken) hat er sich in den USA und in Kanada einen besonderen Namen geschaffen.
