Svein Henrik Giske composer / arranger

Svein H. Giske (1973) was born in the city of Ålesund and studied the trumpet and composition at The Grieg Academy in Bergen before he entered his post as professional trumpet player in The Armed Force Band West (now: The Norwegian Navy Band Bergen) in 1996. He also played solo cornet in Eikanger-Bjørsvik Musikklag from 1995 to 2007. Giske is much sought after as a free lance musician and conductor. He has been a member of Bergen Big Band since 1997 and is currently musical director of Askøy Brass Band and Dragefjellets Musikkorps. He is also an adjudicator, composer and arranger.

His arrangements are performed by all the professional bands in Norway and many of them are recorded with bands such as The Norwegian Navy Band Bergen, Eikanger-Bjørsvik Musikklag,
The Royal Norwegian Navy Band, Stavanger Brass Band, Grimethorpe Colliery Band,
Dragefjellets Musikkorps and others. His arrangements are in demand not only in Norway but also in the UK and on the European continent.
Many of his arrangements are written for famous instrumentalists and singers; Øystein Baadsvik, Nils Landgren, Derek Watkins, Tormod Flaten, Eirik Gjerdevik, Silje Nergaard and Solveig Kringlebotn.

In recent years, Giske has focused more on composing, gaining several commissions from recognized ensembles and festivals as a result. The Norwegian Navy Band Bergen, Grenland International Brass Band Festival, The Bergen Woodwind Ensemble (B3), Eikanger-Bjørsvik Musikklag, Stavanger Brass Band and The National Youth Brass Band of Norway have all commissioned music from him. He has also written solo concertos for the Norwegian trumpet virtuoso Ole Edvard Antonsen and trombone soloist Marius Hesby.
