Elisabeth Serenade Ronald Binge / Arr. Zbysek Bittmar
Elisabeth Serenade is one of the best known works of the British composer Ronald Binge 1910 to 1979. Binge was an important representative of British light entertainment music, also known as British Light Music. The memorable and graceful melody of the serenade was first published under the title Andante cantabile. In 1952 at the beginning of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, the composer changed the title to Elizabethan Serenade or Elisabeth Serenade, presumably to reflect the optimistic spirit of the new Elizabethan era. In addition, Elisabeth Serenade served as the signature tune of a popular BBC radio programme, which further increased the work's popularity. Over time numerous vocal versions in various languages were created, highlighting the melodic quality and charming character of the piece.
