Adapted from a movement of Arnesen's Stabat Mater for upper choral voices and orchestra, Eja Mater is arranged for mixed choral voices, violoncello and harp (or piano). This part of the Stabat Mater is a prayer to the Mother of Christ, but Eja Mater is also a prayer of comfort for all parents who have lost a child of their own. As Mary is called fountain of love' (fons amoris) in the Latin text from the 13th century, the piece also expresses the love of parents for their own children. Simple broken chords in the harp/piano accompanying the choir almost throughout the piece, as well as a soothing and sustained choral texture accompany the main melody first introduced in the cello. This melody is passed back and forth between the choral voices and the violoncello while maintaining its calm beauty, spiced with an occasional hint of lament and sorrow. Arnesen's characteristic rich harmonic language pervades this piece as well, not least in a short a cappella passage. A deeply expressive work suitable for intermediate choirs.

Adaptation d'un mouvement du Stabat Mater d'Arnesen pour voix hautes du chur et orchestre, Eja Mater est un arrangement pour voix chorales mixtes, violoncelle et harpe ou piano. Cette partie du Stabat Mater est une prière adressée à la Mère du Christ, mais Eja Mater est aussi une prière de consolation pour tous les parents qui ont perdu un enfant. Comme Marie est désignée comme la "fontaine d'amour" ("fons amoris") dans le texte latin du XIIIe siècle, la pièce exprime également l'amour des parents pour leurs enfants. Des accords simples et brisés, avec lesquels la harpe ou bien le piano accompagne presque incessamment le chur, et une texture chorale apaisante et soutenue accompagnent la mélodie principale, d'abord introduite par le violoncelle. Alternant entre les voix du chur et le violoncelle, cette mélodie conserve sa beauté tranquille, parfois épicée d'une pincée de lamentation et de chagrin. Le riche langage harmonique si caractéristique du style d'Arnesen imprègne également cette pièce, notamment dans un bref passage a cappella. Une uvre très expressive pour des churs de niveau intermédiaire.
