Steven Ponsford composer / arranger
Steven Ponsford was born in Plymouth in 1983 to a family who were active in the Salvation Army. At the age of 8 he started learning cornet, later percussion. When he was 15, Steven wrote his first pieces for small ensembles, summer camps and youth bands. During his time as a member of the Plymouth Congress Hall Band, he expanded his knowledge as a composer and the band regularly played pieces of his at concerts. In 2003 the Salvation Army Publishing House published a first piece of his (PRAISE PARTY) and since then many more works have been published. Experienced people like Stephen Cobb, Kenneth Downie and other personalities supported him on his way. During the last 10 years his works have been regularly performed and recorded on CD's by the International Staff Band and other bands around the world. TURRIS FORTISSIMA, KERYGMA, LIFE ABLAZE and THE DAY OF THE LORD are among his most significant compositions. Steven Ponsford continues to write for The Salvation Army Publishing House, meanwhile he also has an excellent reputation with brass bands and publishers outside this organisation. He regularly receives commissions from all over the world, including Holland, Canada, South Korea, New Zealand and Switzerland.
