Als Komponist und Arrangeur ist Prof. Sepp Tanzer weltweit ein Begriff für Blasmusik. Mit seinem Namen verbunden ist seine Dirigententätigkeit bei der Stadtkapelle Innsbruck-Wilten, die er 40 Jahre lang leitete und deren Auftritte bei den Olympischen Winterspielen in Innsbruck 1964 und 1976 sowie in Grenoble 1968 einem breiten Publikum bekannt wurden. Wegweisend wirkte er jahrelang als Landeskapellmeister von Tirol und beim Österreichischen Rundfunk in der Abteilung für Volks- und Blasmusik.
