She studied composition and instrumental music at the Music Conservatory in Oslo, with a degree in coordination and conducting (1947), with Fartein Valen en tid, and with the renowned Nadia Boulanger in Paris. Han was good friends with Arne Dørumsgaard and Finn Mortensen, with whom he arranged his composition debut in Universitetets Aula (1954).
Sommerfeldt's composers were influenced by minimalist Nordic folk music with no religious overtones, not including Klaus Egge, Harald Sæverud, David Monrad Johansen and Geirr Tveitt. Sommerfeldt's production is dominated by tonal orientated singers and piano players, and a recital of this standard repertoire for new, more overdone opp jennennifer years ago. Eksempler he has composed To Hamsun-sanger, Tre lyriske stemningsbilder and the five sonatin and three fable suites for Klaver. Sommerfeldt's singer, who is then an important part of his production, shows the composer's inner level in the dictated han tok starting point in. Tonesetting to the dictation of Stein Mehren, William Blake, Hans Henrik Holm and Knut Hamsun utgjør a central part of Sommerfeldt's compositional virke.
Sommerfeldt has had enough of Norsk Komponistforening, Rikskonsertene and Norges musikkhøgskole and has been a member of Tonos Vurderingsutvalg. He was an orchestrated commentator on the choir and the ring. Under the psevdonymet Robert Hunter wrote han noveller für Allers. Some of his works (1988) were written by Hans Hunter, but he continued as a journalist in VG der Han for over 30 years.
