*Chalkis auf der Insel Euböa, 8. März 1904, +Athen, 19. September 1949. Nach Abschluß des Konservatoriums in Athen ging er nach Berlin, um dort Violine bei W. Hess und Komposition bei P. Kahn, später auch bei dem Busoni-Schüler Philipp Jarnach, bei Kurt Weill und bei Arnold Schönberg zu studieren. Skalkottas kehrte 1933 in seine Heimat zurück, wo er zurückgezogen und unverstanden von der Umwelt bis zu seinem Tode lebte.
