*Budapest, 18. April 1907, +Los Angeles, 27. Juli 1995. Nach der musikalischen Grundausbildung, die er in Budapest erhalten hatte, wandte sich Rózsa nach Leipzig, um dort bei Hermann Grabner Kompositionslehre und an der Universität bei Th. Kroyer Musikwissenschaft zu studieren. 1929 kamen seine "Nordungarischen Bauerntänze" zur Uraufführung. 1933 übersiedelte er nach Paris, 1935 nach London, 1940 nach Hollywood; seit 1945 lehrt er an der Universität von Süd-Kalifornien. Der Komponist Rózsa schrieb die Musik zu zahlreichen Filmen und begründete damit seinen Weltruhm. Aus der Hand Hermann Grabners hatte er das Erbe Johannes Brahms`, Max Regers und Richard Strauss` empfangen, zugleich aber auch den Sinn für die musikalischen Bedürfnisse des Publikums. Viele seiner Werke nutzen Volksliedthemen.
