Mayhew Lester Lake composer / arranger

*Southville, Massachusetts, 25. Oktober 1879, +Palisade, New Jersey, 16. März 1955. Am New England Conservatory in Boston erhielt er bei J. Vogler die musikalische Ausbildung. Nach Wanderjahren als Unterhaltungsmusiker übernahm er die Leitung des Orchesters des Payret Theaters in Havana (1896 1910). Wieder in New York, schrieb er Arrangements für Sousa, E. F. Goldman, Grainger, Hadley. 1913 trat er als Leiter der Blasmusikproduktion bei C. Fischer ein. Dort erschien 1920 auch sein Buch "The American Band Arranger". Insgesamt hat Lake an die dreitausend Kompositionen und Arrangements hinterlassen. Als Dozent an der Columbia University und an der New York University gab er sein Wissen weiter.
