*Raritan, New Jersey, 30. März 1932. Zaninelli studierte bei Rosario Scalero in Italien sowie am Curtis Institute of Music, wo er 1954 den Kompositionspreis gewann. Zu seinen Lehrern zählten Menotti, Vittorio Giannini und Bohuslav Martinu. Als "Composer in Residence" finden wir ihn an der University of Calgary, an der Banff School of Fine Arts und an der University of Southern Mississippi.
