Luciano L'Abbate composer

Born on 12/12/1961 in Mistretta (ME), he graduated in horn at the 'V. Bellini' Conservatory in Palermo, under the guidance of Maestro Pietro Anfuso. After his studies, in 1979, he began his activity in the orchestra at the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana as first horn and at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo. He took part in several seminars, including the one held by Maestro Iervolino in 1982 in Regio Emilia; he took part in summer masterclasses with Maestro Modonesi in Lanciano (Chieti); he attended study days with Maestro Dale Clevenger, with Guelfo Nalli and with Maestro Luciano Giuliani. He distinguished himself in several competitions, gaining eligibility at the Teatro alla Scala, the Rome Opera, San Carlo in Naples. In 1980 he joined the European Youth Orchestra (ECYO), participating in important tours in Europe, under the direction of Karajan, Solti and Abbado. Also in 1980, he won the 2nd horn competition at the RAI Symphony Orchestra in Turin, where he carried out an intense chamber music activity both for the RAI and for other associations. In 1983 he won the 1st horn competition at the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana where he still works as a soloist and as an orchestra professor. From 1984 to 1996 he taught at the 'V. Bellini' Musical Institute in Caltanissetta. From 1997 to 2001, he taught at the Conservatory of Music in Palermo. Some of his pupils have distinguished themselves in auditions and competitions and collaborate with the following orchestras: Teatro Massimo of Palermo, Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana, Teatro Bellini of Catania, Accademia S. Cecilia of Rome, Teatro Regio of Turin, Teatro alla Scala of Milan, Orchestra Mozart, Israel Chamber Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra of Lisbon. He has published teaching methods and musical pieces for the 'Pizzicato' publishing house in Udine.
