Jonathan Green (b. 1964) is Acting Dean of the College and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Sweet Briar College, where he received the 1999 Award for Excellence in Teaching. He has held positions at Williams, Amherst, Bennington, Hampden-Sydney, and Elon Colleges; and has served as conductor of the Lee County (NC) Community Orchestra and the Greensboro Concert Band, and co-conductor of the Greensboro Symphony Youth Orchestra.
Dr. Green is the author of five music-reference books: A Conductor's Guide to Choral-Orchestral Works: The Twentieth Century, parts I and II, A Bio-Bibliography of Carl Ruggles, A Conductor's Guide to the Choral-Orchestral Works of J. S. Bach, and A Conductor's Guide to the Choral-Orchestral Works of the Classical Period, Part I: Mozart and Haydn. He is also editor of The Journal of the Conductors Guild.
As a composer, Dr. Green has received awards from ASCAP, the North Carolina Arts Council, and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. He has had numerous commissions from the United States, England, and Australia. His 120+ works include many songs, choral and chamber works, three piano concertos, and six symphonies. He is published by C. Alan Publications, Bernel Editions, and Treble Clef Press.
He is a member of ASCAP, the College Music Society (Mid-Atlantic Chapter President), the Conductors Guild (board member), American Choral Directors' Association, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
