Ira Paul Schwarz ( Sheldon, Iowa) , February 24, 1922 - Mundesley-on-Sea (Norfolk) , 2006 [1] and [2] ) was an American composer , music teacher , writer.
Schwarz studied music at Morningside College in Sioux City , Iowa , where he obtained his Bachelor of Music , the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, South Dakota , where he obtained his Master of Arts , the University of Iowa in Iowa City , where he was promoted to Ph.D. (Philosophiæ Doctor) , the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, and at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts . His teachers for composition included Nadia Boulanger , G. Thaddeus Jones , Philip Bezanson and Richard Hervig . He is a professor and Composer-in-Residence- Emeritus of the State University of New York (SUNY), in Brockport (New York) . Schwarz was also a professor at the State University of Minot in Minot (North Dakota) for some time .

As a composer, he has written for many genres such as works for orchestra, concert band, chamber music, jazz band, carillon and choirs. Schwarz also wrote various operas, theater music and extensive literature for wind ensembles. His works have been performed in Europe , Japan , South Africa , Canada , South America and in the United States. Schwarz compositions were recorded by orchestras and ensembles from around the world, for example by the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra , conducted by Robert Stankovsky, the Russian Symphonic State Cappella , conducted by Constantin Kremetz, the US National Flute Association Flute Choir , the Symphonic Band of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) from Cambridge (Massachusetts) led by John Corley and by well-known artists and artists.

He was also known as a writer of four books, music criticisms in various magazines and newspapers.

In 1998 he moved to Mundesley-on-Sea (Norfolk) where he worked as a freelance composer and music teacher.
