Ingo Luis composer / arranger
Ingo Luis (* 1961) is a musical crossover artist by conviction: in both a playing and a playful manner, he moves swiftly between the genres as a bass trombone player, arranger, composer and lecturer. He enjoys playing, composing and arranging popular, classical and jazz music, but especially combining the genres together.
His practical education includes Big Band, symphonic and chamber music of all kinds. He has played under the direction of great conductors as well as with well-known jazz musicians, such as Rudolf Barshai, Ingo Metzmacher, Michael Schönwandt, Michael Jurowsky, Dennis Russell Davies, Emmerich Smola, Jonathan Nott, Slide Hampton, Bob Mintzer, Ack van Rooyen, Bobby Shew, to name a few.
Ingo plays the bass trombone with the Cologne Radio Orchestra (WDR Funkhausorchester) since 1995. Previous groups include the Beethovenorchester Bonn, the Starlight Express Orchestra in Bochum, the Peter Herbolzheimer RC & Brass, the WDR Big Band, the Bamberg Symphony and many more.
His skills and expertise can also be found off stage. Ingo has arranged and composed music for Big Bands, symphonic orchestras, and chamber music ensembles of all sizes and formations for many years. Creativity and humour are the signature features of his arrangements, which are performed worldwide whenever suitable with a good amount of jazz.
His regular clients are the WDR Radio, the symphonic orchestras of Wuppertal and Bonn, the protestant church with its nationwide brass bands, and the ensembles Hessen Brass, Salaputia Brass and the Melton Tuba Quartett, to name a few. Many of his works have meanwhile been published.
Ingo Luis shares his expertise with great dedication. He has been a sought-after lecturer for workshops with a focus on brass, most notably for the brass ensembles of the protestant church, for many years. He also coaches ensembles of all kinds and supports them in their preparation for concerts, recordings and in the production of new works. On top of his involvement in uncountable studio productions, Ingo has produced three CDs with his longtime companion Ludwig Nuss, lead-trombonist of the WDR Radio Big Band. The works of the TwoBoneBigBand are still leading the way for the trombone community today:
Hornplayers Can't Eat Garlic (MKW Records),
The Return of the Hornplayers (Mons Records),
Hornplayers Fifty-fifty (Mons Records)
