*Tasdorf bei Berlin, 5. September 1791, +Paris, 2. Mai 1864. Meyerbeer erhielt Musikunterricht von Zelter, B. A. Weber und Abbé Vogler in Berlin und Darmstadt. Nach Wanderjahren ließ er sich 1831 in Paris nieder, wo er die deutsche und italienische Manier ablegte und zu einem "französischen" Komponisten wurde. Mit den Opern "Robert der Teufel" und "Die Hugenotten" errang er bedeutende Erfolge. 1842 wurde er als Nachfolger Spontinis zum Generalmusikdirektor in Berlin ernannt.

Giacomo Meyerbeer (17911864) war ein deutscher Opernkomponist jüdischer Herkunft, der als vielleicht erfolgreichster Bühnenkomponist des 19. Jahrhunderts beschrieben wird. Von 1831 bis zu seinem Tod blieb er eine dominierende Figur in der Welt der Oper. Sein Zeitgenosse Hector Berlioz fasste seine öffentliche Karriere mit den Worten zusammen, dass er nicht nur das Glück hat, talentiert zu sein, sondern auch das Talent, Glück zu haben. Seine Werke machten ihn im 19. Jahrhundert zum meistgespielten Komponisten an den führenden Opernhäusern der Welt.

Giacomo Meyerbeer komponierte 1849 seine Oper Le Prophète. In dieser Oper geht einer Krönung ein prächtiger Marsch voraus. Obwohl die Oper selbst selten aufgeführt wird, hat der Krönungsmarsch einen festen Platz im Konzertrepertoire erobert.
