David Edmonds composer
David Edmonds is a British composer who started writing music in 2001 for brass band. As a member of the local Salvation Army, and getting involved in music making from a young age, David was nurtured in composition by other Salvation Army composers and in 2005 had his first piece of music published.
It was also in 2005 that David went to the University of Hertfordshire to study Music Composition and Technology while continuing to write for Salvation Army journals for brass band and vocal groups.
In 2008 David joined The Salvation Army's Household Troops Band and this gave him a fantastic opportunity to play some great music around the world, as well as the encouragement to continue writing music for the band to play. That first year, the band recorded and featured a swing arrangement by David on their programmes entitled "Exalted". Over the years, David has had multiple compositions and arrangements recorded by the band, performed around the world, and published in Salvation Army journals in the UK, New York and Canada, as well as publications by other Brass Band publishers around the world.
David has always considered his gift of music to be a God-given gift and continues to use his musical talents to write and play music within his church and for the glory of God.
As well as composition, David also qualified as a secondary school music teacher in the UK and also took on Musical Director roles in several groups. He has conducted the Hemel Hempstead Brass Band, Luton Brass Band, The Salvation Army's Three Counties Brass Band and also set up and led his own brass sextet, Codetta Brass.
In June 2020, David turned his hand to composing for TV and film and in December of that same year, David composed both the score and the trailer for his first feature film, Only Love Matters (for which he was nominated for "Best Music" at the Tokyo Indie Film Festival). Since then, he has continued to score for other projects, including YouTube channels and the short film, The Morning After.
David's goal now is to continue making music that will have a defined effect on those that hear it, both for The Salvation Army and for the screen, and to help to support the next generation of composers.
