Barry Darrol geboren in Salford, England, 1956. Im Jahr 1977 begann er das Musikstudium am Salford College of Technology, wo Roy Newsome, Goff Richards und Geoffrey Whitham ihn unterrichteten. Weitere Kompositions studien absolvierte er bei Joseph Horovitz am Royal College of Music in London.
