Alfonso Yépez Santamaria "Chipi" composer

Alfonso Yépez Santamaría, better known as "Chipi", was born in Alcoi in 1981 and, although he lived in Cocentaina during his childhood, he began his music studies at the Unió Musical d'Alcoi academy at the age of 9 with Rafael Mullor Grau.

He studied percussion with Juan Ponsoda and took advanced courses with prestigious teachers such as Juanjo Guillem and Rainer Seegers. Later he began his composition studies, first self-taught and then with the teachers Jose Vte. Algado and Saül Gómez. Later he continued his composition studies at the Conservatorio Superior de Música "Óscar Esplá" in Alicante where he obtained the Título de Grado Superior in the speciality of Composition. He studied Composition and Arranging for Symphonic Band with Vicente Ortiz at the Berklee College of Music in Valencia. He holds a degree from the University of Alicante and a CAP from the Polytechnic University of Valencia. He studied band conducting at the school "Juventuts Musicals de la Vall d'Albaida" with Jose Rafael Pascual-Vilaplana and has also taken advanced courses in band and orchestra conducting with teachers such as Jose Alberto Pina, Ignacios García Vidal, Jose Vte. Algado, Tobias Gossman, Óscar Navarro, Enrique García Asensio and Pablo Marqués Mestre.

He has composed several pieces for band and for different types of ensembles, most of them dedicated to the music of Moors and Christians.
