'There is an unwritten rule saying that the artist should have to keep his art and personal matters strictly separate.' Says the composer York Höller, only to instantly object: 'If Alban Berg had abided by this rule, Lyrische Suite for string quartet would never have been written' - as, one may add, would many other works of the classical repertoire! With the piano quintet Zwiegestalt, performed for the first time in Essen in June 2008 by Anthony Spiri and the Minguet Quartet, Höller created his own 'lyrical suite'. Its five movements are based on a 'tonal structure' shaped from the musical note letters the composer obtained from the names of his deceased wife and his current partner.

With the piano quintet Zwiegestalt, performed for the first time in Essen in June 2008 by Anthony Spiri and the Minguet Quartet, Höller created his own 'lyrical suite'. Its five movements are based on a 'tonal structure' shaped from the musical note letters the composer obtained from the names of his deceased wife and his current partner. "Selon une loi non écrite, l'artiste serait sensé établir une stricte séparation entre son art et sa vie privée". Ainsi s'exprime le compositeur York Höller, pour nuancer aussitôt en ajoutant : "Si Alban Berg s'était conformé à cette règle, la 'Suite lyrique' pour quatuor n'aurait jamais vu le jour" - et il en va de même, peut-on dire en complément, d'un nombre incalculable de pièces du répertoire classique ! Dans ce quintette avec piano "Zwiegestalt", créé à Essen en juin 2008 par Antony Spiri et le Quatuor Minguet, Höller a réalisé sa propre "Suite Lyrique". Le matériau de base de ses cinq mouvements est structuré à partir des notes correspondantes aux lettres du nom de sa défunte épouse ainsi que de celui de son actuelle compagne.
