Gaudete Traditional / Arr. Stephen Roberts

Gaudete was first published as a sacred carol in 1582 but its origins are even older. This version is arranged in the style of Pastime with Good Company, combining the ancient melody with modern rhythmic patterns. The irregular rhythms of the setting of the Latin words are put against a regular rock beat and the resultant tension celebrates the meeting of the old and the new.


Gaudete est un chant sacré publié en 1582, mais dont l'origine pourrait être encore plus ancienne. Ecrit à la manière de Pastime with Good Company, Gaudete allie une mélodie ancienne, un contrepoint et une rythmique moderne. Les rythmes irréguliers générés dans la version originelle par les mots latins se superposent à un "beat rock" régulier. Gaudete : les couleurs de la fusion entre « l'ancien et le nouveau » !


Gaudete ist ein heiliger Gesang, der 1582 publiziert wurde. Ursprünglich könnte er aber auch noch älter sein. Im Stil von Pastime with Good Company geschrieben, vereinigt Gaudete eine alte Melodie, einen Kontrapunkt und einen modernen Rhythmus. Die unregelmässigen Rhythmen, in der Originalfassung erzeugt durch die lateinischen Wörter, überlappen einen regelmässigen Beat Rock. Gaudete: die ganze Palette zwischen alt und neu!
