The Wellerman (Sea Shanty) Traditional / Arr. Sebastian Middel

The 'Wellerman' is the fishing company's supply ship, which brings supplies to the whaling ships and is eagerly awaited by the people (bring the sugar and tea to rum). These ships were often the only source of news and information from home for those at sea for months.

Sebastian Middel's version of this beautiful traditional shanty was commissioned by the Bundeswehr Music Corps, under its director Lieutenant Colonel Christoph Scheibling, on the occasion of World Peace Day 2021, in collaboration with the German War Graves Commission.

The arrangement is deliberately designed in a symphonic format.
