Spring Divertimento Timothy Mahr

This title was commissioned by the La Crosse Central Wind Ensemble, Alex Vaver, Conductor and the La Crosse Education Foundation. It is divided into six movements. Each movement opens with a different key or no key at all. The keys used throughout include: B-flat, C, E-flat, A-flat, and D. The meter signature also changes frequently from the opening 4/4 with the quarter note equal to 136 to 144 beats per minute. The other meters used are 3/4, 7/8, and some 5/8. Many different instruments are highlighted with solos, including the trumpet, clarinet, flute, English horn, oboe, and the alto saxophone. A piano part is also included and has an important role in this composition.
