Mourning Dances is a work that "structures itself as a series of dances, all of which seem to be natural responses involving physical movement to the wide array of emotional states encountered after the loss of someone held dear to the heart. Some are dances of grief and confusion, others are dances of fond memory." Mahr's ability to paint vivid colors of sound permeates the work.
