This programmatic work describes travel experiences in the Middle East. Typical Arabian land- and seascapes are explored and expressed with grand orchestral brush strokes, leaving the listener in awe of the natural beauty of these exotic places. A more human touch is added by the inclusion of scenes from an oriental market -musically structured by a clarinet solo that starts slowly but develops into a fast frenzy. The militant percussion and brass triplets build up to a marching beat that represents the power of a stronghold in the desert or by the sea. As the composition concludes, an impressionistic musical painting is created by the use of ostinato patterns, polyrhythm and multiple layers of sound.
