Fantasia and Hymn for a lost Horn

Fantasia and Hymn for a lost Horn Thomas Krause

Fantasia and Hymn for a lost Horn was commissioned by the
Gemeinnützige Gesellschaft des Kreises Steinfurt. It is dedicated to Reinhard Greß and his Concertband Brass, Winds & Co. This orchestra, who´s members from regional orchestras come together once a year, to rehearse and performe extraordinary and outstanding pieces for symphonic windband and was celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2018. To put a regional subject to this commissioned composition a mediaeval incident was chosen. About 1457, in coherence with the Münstersche Stiftsfehde (religious foundations` feud of german city Münster) the citizens of Steinfurt captured the horn of the night watchman of the city Rheine. This horn was supposed to warn the citizens against attacks of enemies. In 2016, on the occasion of the 400 years existence of a civic protecting group in Rheine, which was founded in those mediaeval days, this captured horn came back as a loan to the Falkenhof Museum in Rheine for a couple of months.
