These seven settings for piano solo, like the original chamber music cycle, are evocative of the unscrupulous period of the slave trade: 'For me, the meaning of this work lies in the lasting remembrance, the reverent ceremony, not solely the emotionalism and contemplation of the prayer, but contemplation of the mind. A l´instar du cycle original de musique de chambre, ces sept arrangements pour piano seul rappellent l'époque sans scrupule du commerce des esclaves: « Pour moi, le sens de cette uvre est le souvenir persistant, le cérémonial du devoir de mémoire, non seulement l´émotion et le recueillement dans la prière, mais aussi la contemplation de l'esprit.
