The ragtime is a medium quick syncopated dance which was extremely popular at the turn of the century. It was also one of the components of jazz music.In the seventies there was a real revival of ragtime music, largely due to the succes of the film 'The Sting' which used the ragtime music of Scott Joplin. This Ragtime Suite is based on two popular American songs. The middle part is not a ragtime, but a romantic intermezzo with some jazzy influences.

Le ragtime, une danse syncopée plutôt lente, fut extrêmement populaire au tournant du siècle et fut également l'une des composantes de la musique de jazz. Dans les années 70 cette danse connut un réveil grâce au film 'L'Arnaque' dont la bande sonore était basée sur la musique de ragtime de Scott Joplin. Cette Suite est basée sur deux mélodies américaines populaires. La partie intermédiaire n'est pas un ragtime, mais un intermezzo romantique doté, de ci de là, d'un caractère légèrement 'jazzy'.

De ragtime, een matig snelle gesyncopeerde dans, was rond de eeuwwisseling populair en was één van de componenten van de jazzmuziek. In de zeventiger jaren was er plotseling sprake van een revival onder invloed van de invloed van de film 'The Sting' waarin de ragtime voor de muzikale illustratie zorgde.De hoekdelen van deze Ragtime Suite zijn gebaseerd op twee bekende Amerikaanse liedjes. Het middendeel is geen rag, maar een romantisch intermezzo dat hier en daar een licht jazzy karakter krijgt.
