Adagio for Strings is one of the most well-known and loved pieces from Samuel Barber. Barber himself, arranged the 2nd movement of his first string quartet for string orchestra. By popular demand, Ton van Grevenbroek has arranged this wonderful piece for concert band. The slow musical lines and the minor key make the Adagio truly one of the saddest pieces of music ever composed. This song is even more famous due to the movie Platoon by Oliver Stone.

l'Adagio for Strings est l'une des compositions la mieux connue et la plus appréciée de Samuel Barber. Barber a lui-même arrangé le deuxième mouvement de son premier quatuor à cordes pour orchestre à cordes. À la demande de bien des gens, Ton van Grevenbroek a arrangé pour harmonie de façon très compétente ce morceau splendide. Les lignes musicales lentes et traînantes et la tonalité mineure font de l'Adagio une des compositions les plus douloureuses qui existent. Het Adagio for Strings is een van de bekendste en meest geliefde stukken van Samuel Barber. Barber bewerkte zelf het tweede deel van zijn eerste strijkkwartet voor strijkorkest. Op veler verzoek arrangeerde Ton van Grevenbroek dit prachtige stuk op vakkundige wijze voor harmonieorkest. De langzame slepende muzikale lijnen en de mineur-toonsoort waarin het staat maken dat het Adagio wel wordt beschouwd als één van de droevigste muziekstukken ooit gecomponeerd. Dit muziekstuk is ook zeer bekend dankzij de film Platoon van Oliver Stone.
