Written in 1998, this piece displays the whimsical character of the scherzo as a musical joke, and is written with great fondness for the bassoon and its timbres. It also recognizes the instrument's potential for comedy and acknowledges a debt to the Sorcerer's Apprentice of Paul Dukas.
