The Concerto for Band was written between July 1979 and October 1980. It is the seventh work in the series of commissions extended by Ithaca College in memory of Walter Beeler, and known as the Walter Beeler Memorial Band Series. It was first performed on April 4, 1981.
It is a one-movement work in four distinct sections: an introduction; a fast, driving developmental section; a lyric, yet melancholy slow section; and a fast section that serves as a reprise. (RJ)
