Composed for the Children's Chorus of Opera North, this is an upper voice setting of Thomas Hardy's poem of the same name. The swaying jazz waltz style and chromatic, but very singable melody combine to create an effective and unique carol. The vocal parts are very approachable, with unison verses and two or three-part wordless refrains. This piece will add great variety to any choir's Christmas programme.

Composée pour le Children's Chorus of Opera North, cette pièce est une mise en musique pour voix de chur hautes du poème du même nom de Thomas Hardy. Le style ondulant d'une valse jazz et les mélodies chromatiques mais faciles à chanter en font une pièce de Noël unique et efficace, qui apporte un peu de variation dans les programmes de Noël traditionnels. Les voix de chur sont très accessibles, les strophes chantées en unisono et le refrain sans texte (on n'entend qu'un « oo ») en deux ou trois voix.
