Wagner composed his opera Lohengrin about 1849. This splendid piece is extracted from that opera. It describes a huge procession of nicely dressed guests headed by Elsa walking through the cathedral gate. The guests take their seats while Elsa proceeds to the altar to marry Lohengrin, the 'Swan Knight'. A brilliant theme starts in a subtle way and swells in some minutes into one of the absolute highlights of the late romantic period.

Wagner schreef de opera Lohengrin rond 1849. Uit deze opera komt dit schitterende werk. Een lange processie van prachtig geklede gasten met Elsa voorop wandelen langzaam door de poort van kathedraal. De gasten nemen hun plaats in en Elsa gaat naar het altaar waar zij trouwt met Lohengrin de Zwaanridder. Een schitterend thema begint zeer subtiel in enkele stemmen en zwelt in een paar minuten aan tot een van de mooiste hoogtepunten uit de laat-romantische periode.
